Layout of the Essential Pensions guide

The Essential Pensions guide is divided into four sections all full of free information and advice and which can be reached using the menu's on the left hand side of the screen. The four sections are

Pensions

This section provides an overview of pensions as a whole. Sometimes the complexity of the pension system can detract from the true focus of retirement planning. The key requirement is to save enough money to live off after you finish work. This section explores this and covers the following topics:
  • what is a pension?
  • why everybody needs to provide for themselves in retirement
  • how much this might cost
  • why you cannot afford to not have a pension; and
  • how to go about getting hold of one.
This section is an excellent starting point for considering your retirement plans.

State Pensions

This section describes the different types of pension provided by the state, how you might qualify for these pensions, how much they might be and where to get more information about your state benefits. It also discusses some of the problems with the state pension.

Company Pensions

Some companies provide pension schemes for their employees. This section of the guide describes how some of these pension schemes work, what they might cost in terms of contributions from employees and how much pension you might expect to get at the end of the day.

Individual Pensions

For those of us who are not lucky enough to have a company pension scheme, or those wishing to make additional pension savings then pensions are available to individuals. This section discusses how these work and what you need to know to get hold of one.
We also have an extensive glossary full of terms which sometimes get used in the pensions guide. Enjoy...
