Pensions

It is widely acknowledged that pensions is a complex subject. Many people can be put off from starting a pension or taking an interest in their pension planning because of this complexity. This is a shame because planning for retirement no matter how young or old you are is something which everyone really does need to spend some time thinking about. The world of pensions can be further demystified by seeking the help and advice of an independent financial adviser.
As you will see later in the guide it is quite clear that the pension provided by the state is not and will not be enough for many people to live in retirement without a substantial decrease in their standard of living. Therefore it is every individuals responsibility to ensure that they are saving enough today to provide for themselves in retirement. The Essential Pensions guide aims to provide enough information and advice for you to start planning your retirement. Once you have made this initial step you can relax safe in the knowledge that you are making the necessary savings.

The Essential Pensions guide

The Essential Pensions guide explains some (hopefully most) aspects of the pensions system in the UK which people will find useful. There is not a lot of information available on the internet regarding the UK pension system and it is very rare to find it all on one site! The Essential Pensions guide plugs this gap and provide an accurate and useful guide to pensions for everybody.
The whole subject of pensions can be confusing and full of jargon (Stakeholders, With-profits, GPPs, AVC's, Defined Contribution, Final Salary, the list goes on and on). This guide tries to avoid as much jargon as possible (If you find any - let us know and we will have it replaced with plain English!) because the use of jargon makes understanding pensions very difficult for many people. If at any point you find something that you do not understand then please let us know. If you do not understand it then chances are other people are having the same problem!
Please go on and read as much or as little of the guide as you need. We would welcome your comments on the contents of the pensions guide. In fact your comments will help shape the Essential Pensions guide of the future so please just let us know what you need to know!
Thank you
The Essential Pensions Team
